Abstract: This 6 page report discusses the work of Josef von Sternberg (1894-1969) who is best known for the films he created for and with Marlene Dietrich. In fact, his films with her were his most popular and successful, as well as some of his best and most innovative film-making. The report also looks at possible reasons for the fact that he was not nearly as successful with his later movies as he had been with the seven he and Dietrich made. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
