Content Analysis and the Authority of Quantification

Abstract: This 12 page paper considers the issue of the use of content analysis for studies of science and technology presented in the mass media and suggests that this type of analysis reveals by the choice itself an unnecessary attachment to the apparent authority of quantification. This paper helps to critically discuss this proposition, especially as it relates to the impact of quantitative research designs and increasing support for qualification over content analysis in studies of science and technology. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
