Abstract: In 10 pages the author discusses the pros and cons of having society determine punishment for crime. 'Crime and punishment for crime has been around since the beginning of time. Looking to the importance of this, one will find that over the ages there have been different strategies for the punishment of crimes. As civilization has become more sophisticated, so has the punishment, which has ranged from flagellation, to hanging, to crucifixion, to exile, to prison, to the sentence of death, as in capital punishment. Punishment for crime has gone through many changes in the last decade. Today the death penalty is used quite frequently. Society has an impact on the type of punishment given for varying offenses' Bibliography lists 11 sources.
