Abstract: This 20 page paper considers the changing views of the family and the contemporary family types that will provide the definition for the family of the 21st century. This paper considers issues like divorce and remarriage and the way in which step-families have become a new social institution, as well as the issues that impact families, from poverty to race, and how these elements influence the emerging definition of the family.
