Stress Effects and Health

Abstract: A 10 page paper reviewing and then discussing some of the current literature devoted to describing how increased stress adversely affects health. For most adults and an increasing number of teens, having unplanned, unscheduled time to do something enjoyable or nothing at all is a rare occurrence. A far more common scenario is that there is far too much to do in the time available to do it, whether the tasks at hand are related to work responsibilities or simply getting the laundry done. A "touch" of stress can be beneficial in that it spurs us to action, but stress in high levels or long intervals can be detrimental to health. It can prematurely age the arterial and immune systems and cause changes in the brain. Researchers are making strides in learning how stress is able to adversely affect those susceptible to it. Bibliography lists 13 sources.
