Shakespeare for the 90s? Oliver Parker's Othello

Abstract: A 6 page review of the latest movie version of Othello, starring Laurence Fishburne as Othello and Kenneth Branagh as Othello. The paper notes that Parker cut and altered much of Shakespeare's dialogue and changed the very slant of the film in a quest for "relevance"; it questions whether Shakespeare would not have been better presented in a manner more faithful to the playwright's vision.
