Highway Construction and Environmental Impact

Abstract: An 18 page discussion of the highway construction and its sometimes tremendous impact on the world's air and water and the environment in general. The general public is most often aware of the impacts on animal and plant species. Many other environmental impacts come at the hands of highway construction, however. These impacts can be both direct and indirect, point source and nonpoint source. Careful attention to project planning can result in the avoidance of environmental impact, the minimization of that impact or, mitigation when neither avoidance or minimization can be accomplished.
