This is a general paper, but it specifically addresses "The Piano," "Educating Rita," "Annie Hall" and "My Brilliant Career." It concludes that while weak women frequently can be found in the background, primary characters either begin as strong women or emerge as such by film's end. Bibliography lists 1 source.
