Social Needs Assessment Strategy for the Homeless

Abstract: A 6 page discussion of the assessment process for homeless clients. Emphasizes that while these clients typically need temporary shelter as well as food, clothing, and jobs but long-term intervention is often needed as well. The case counselor must be able to assess both the initial long-term needs of these clients in the short time frame of one interview so that appropriate arrangements may be made for obtaining shelter, meeting the immediate needs of the client, and steering that client in a direction which will also address their long-term needs.
