Abstract: 7 pages in length. The cultural convergence of hip-hop and rhythm & blues that occurred throughout the 1990s gave rise to a blending of sounds that had heretofore been considered distinctly opposite. This fusion of sound and style was responsible for establishing a strong connection between black expression and the ongoing quest for social acceptance, such as that found in the artistic endeavors of artists like Lenny Kravitz. Interestingly, the significant impact hip-hop has had upon rhythm & blues has not remained within the boundaries of America; rather, all of Europe has also embraced this coupling as the next great induction of intersecting sounds.
