Abstract: This 20 page report discusses the fact that postmenopausal estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) has been repeatedly linked with breast cancer. Some studies show no increased risk for breast cancer. Others suggest there may be a slight increased risk, while still others say that there is an increased risk, but that it is minimal and occurs only after ten or more years of use. Numerous research efforts that have shown that estrogen use is clearly connected to an increased risk of uterine, endometrial, and breast cancers. However, such factors must be weighed against the fact that estrogen significantly reduces a woman's chances of developing osteoporosis and can act as a defender against cardiovascular disease. Bibliography lists 16 sources.
