Addressing Research Problems in Transportation

Abstract: A 10 page paper discussing the complexities of approaching a design for assessing the true environment effect of transporting both people and products by auto or truck. The paper briefly discusses acid rain and CO2 emissions, along with efforts to produce cleaner engines and cleaner fuels, with efforts extending even to achieving driverless vehicles that have more uniform fuel usage. Assessing full environmental cost includes beginning with placement of the roadway, manufacture and use of the machinery used in construction, and other types of items. The paper concludes that a linear programming approach can be beneficial for controlling for or stripping out complicating variables. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
