Abstract: A 5 page research paper that examines Ludwig Van Beethoven's piano sonata in C-sharp minor, which is better known as the "Moonlight" Sonata, and his chorale finale to the his Ninth Symphony. The writer argues that these works represent very different eras in musical history. After first describing the similarities and differences that are readily discernible, the writer looks at the history of the classical and romantic periods in musical history and how each work is related to the era in which Beethoven wrote it, reflecting personal, as well as contemporary influences. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
