Bonnie and Clyde (1967 movie): Cultural Impacts

Abstract: (7 pp) Few if any art pieces that survive are made in a vacuum. What that means is that somehow something was going on in the country or the culture, which caused the appeal of Bonnie and Clyde? This discussion will look at the historical period of the movie itself, and the historical period of the time in which it was shown to make some conclusions. Our thesis statement for this paper is that there are numerous overlays of attitude - hope and despair-- between the Great Depression and the late sixties, which reinforced the appeal of this movie.
