The Inadequacy Of Language

Abstract: 7 pages in length. The evolution of human language is a great mystery. Its structure is different from that of any other type of communication on the planet, yet its definitive origin is still unknown beyond intelligent guesses. However, linguists continue to pursue the hidden secrets behind the evolution of language, as well as identify the myriad inadequacies. The fact that language erects a significant communication barrier is quite easy to understand; with the dozens of various tongues spoken around the world, it does not take much comprehension to accept this argument. Because this barrier exists, it is not a simple task to express oneself to a person of a different heritage by utilizing speech alone. It can readily be argued that verbal communication brings with it a considerable amount of misunderstanding, whether that has to do with the actual words chosen, the inflection or the hidden meaning behind them. While language is one of the most intimate parts of culture, it can also be one of the most dividing among peoples. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
