Hiring Problems at Bank One

Abstract: A 5 page paper discussing conditions at Bank One, the nation's fourth-largest bank and one with extensive presence in 14 states of the Midwest. The paper focuses on economic conditions and the relationship to Bank One's ability to attract and retain qualified employees. Based now in Chicago, Bank One pays tellers no better than does any other bank, including its Chicago competitors. Rising unemployment has eased the local labor market somewhat, and Bank One has new leadership in place. It may once again be an employer of choice, but it continues to struggle in 2001.
