Abstract: A 5 page discussion of the complex interrelationship between characters which exists in this opera which was first performed in 1791 in Vienna. Reviews the underlying symbolism in the libretto of the opera as well as the importance of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, emphasizing that this music is central to conveying an understanding of the plot and the complex interrelationships among the characters. Bibliography lists two sources.
