This paper emphasizes that Athens was the administrative, economic, cultural, and intellectual center of Greece and, in many ways, of the world as a whole. Observations are included as to the importance of city morphology, art, and the influence of more ancient cultures, on the lives of Athenians. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
