Abstract: This 5 page paper discusses Bruenhilde from Das Rheingold by Wagner as the real protagonist in the Ring Cycle. Musical motifs are given which show her conflict with Odin(Wotan) and how Bruenhilde overcomes this conflict. Also given are the traits of a heroine, which are compared to Bruenhilde's role in the Cycle. All examples cited and quoted. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
