Abstract: A 6 page research paper that contrasts and compares the social theories of Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim. The writer argues that while these two early sociologists differed in the particulars of their philosophy, they both saw liberty and equality as dynamic forces that propelled the mechanism of social evolution. In other words, they saw issues of liberty and equality in relation to societal structure as a whole, and not as distinct elements unto themselves. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
