Welfare Colonialism?: Two Diverse Examples

Abstract: A 7 page consideration of the contention that he contention that the history of supporting indigenous communities with no consideration of long-term economic viability has imperiled the health of cultures all over the world. Examples are presented from the Irish Travelers, the Torres Strait Islanders, and the Australian Aboriginals. The conclusion is made that while welfare colonialism increases economic dependence it also fosters political autonomy. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
