1963 Community Mental Health Law

Abstract: 7 pages. President John F. Kennedy first implemented the 1963 Community Mental Health Law, known as Act PI 88-164, the Mental Health Act. This was a well-intentioned plan that was meant to serve all peoples in need of mental health care regardless of age or income. The act did in fact serve in this capacity for some time, but unfortunately it has fallen by the wayside in many cases. This paper explains the legislation, implementation and impact of this important act and how it has affected the population in many ways. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
