Abstract: Female juvenile delinquency is on the increase. This paper looks at female friendships in order to understand some of the influencing factors. First, the issue of gang membership and the reasons for membership that leads to crime is examined. This indicates that peer pressure is a string influence. The paper then looks at a study undertaken that supports the hypothesis that peer pressure is perceived as higher in delinquent females when compared to non delinquent females. The same study also indicated the quality of friendships was not significantly different but communication was lower in the delinquent females. The bibliography cites 7 sources.
