History and Uses of the Flute

Abstract: A 4 page paper discussing changes in the flute since the 14th century. The flute as it is known today owes many of its characteristics and qualities to the changes designed and implemented by Theobald Boehm (1794-1881) in the early 19th century. A woodwind most often used as a soprano voice in orchestras, marching bands and ensemble groups, the flute remains one of the most popular of all the musical instruments commonly in use today. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
