Ventricular Assist Devices

Abstract: A 10 page paper discussing devices most commonly used as bridges to heart transplant while patients wait for a heart to become available. Some heart patients wear a defibrillator attached to them or a pacemaker implanted within them, others have ventricular assist devices. The purpose here is to discuss some of the ventricular assist devices available for use today and make suggestions for future research. The paper mentions several types of devices, discussing research and experience with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and biventricular assist devices (BVAD) in detail. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
