Language Diversity In UK Businesses

Abstract: A 14 page paper. Less than one percent of the entire British work force is identified as ethnic minority. Even so, companies whose employees represent more than one culture and language will sometimes be faced with language barriers. To fully understand the obstacles language can present, it is also necessary to have a basic understanding of the cultures involved. The focus of this paper is on businesses in Britain that have Chinese employees. Because culture and language cannot be separated, the discussion also includes comments on the British and Chinese cultures. The essay ends with recommendations for overcoming language barriers in the workplace. Bibliography lists 11 sources.
