Understanding The Influence Of Exposure To Racial Stereotypes

Abstract: 10 pages in length. Through eye-opening discovery, the student has come to realize she harbors stereotypical attitudes toward other races, most surprisingly because she heretofore did not equate her impressions of Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans as anything but accurate characteristics. This study has enabled the student to become more self-aware of the deep rooted stereotypes she harbors most readily toward Asian and African-Americans, a realization she achieved when faced with data inconsistent to conventional stereotypes. It is a safe assumption that the impact of such inaccurate character assessments has caused the student to maintain limited relations with these two particular races, giving credence to the manner by which such stereotypes influence interactions and attitudes about particular group. Moreover, she finds this reality extremely unsettling, because she knows that stereotypes are primarily false character profiles based upon unfounded beliefs about particular groups.
