Childhood Depression and Suicide: The Appropriate Role of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) in Treatment

Abstract: A 10 page discussion of depression and suicidal tendencies among children. While the suicide rate has actually declined since the introduction of SSRIs, there is a growing concern that these drugs many contribute to suicidal thoughts and behavior among some children. Is it possible that the declining suicide rate is not a reflection of SSRI usage but of some other factor? This paper explores the validity of the concerns over SSRIs. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
