Abstract: A 6 page research paper. In a speech given by Bill Moyers at the Inequality Matters Forum held at New York University on June 3, 2004, he described it as "astonishing" that no one in Washington appears to be concerned or embarrassed by the gap between the rich and the poor in the US is greater than it has been in 50 years (Moyers 17). This situation can be traced to an interconnected relationship between different systemic problems in American culture. Examining poverty, particularly the situations of the working poor, from a system/ecological approach reveals sociocultural dynamics that go to the heart of failing in the capitalist system. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
