Ethics in Nursing

Abstract: A 10 page paper examining the applicability of the philosophies of Kant, Mill and Rawls for decision-making in nursing. Today's nurses face decisions and situations that were not technologically possible only a few years ago, and they are called on to make decisions in realms that were barely considered a generation ago and did not exist earlier in the last century. The old (and some still living) philosophers provide a framework in which to approach decision-making and emerge with sound, ethical and moral decisions even though the specific situation at hand may appear to be quite thorny. Though any specific situation is likely to be complex, the old philosophers can help to illuminate the proper decision path. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
