Abstract: 3 pages in length. With the agonizing demise of Terri Schiavo, the question of what defines death has come to the forefront of philosophical and medical debate. When is a person dead? When they can no longer take care of themselves? When they have no quality of life? When there is no hope for reversal of deterioration of brain and other organs should the individual awaken from a coma? Indeed, while one might surmise how the definition of death is quite finite and straightforward, it has proven to be anything but. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
