Utilization Management in a Canadian Hospital

Abstract: A 5 page paper answering four utilization questions arising from plans to add a chronic care unit to a local hospital. The Director of a General Medicine program needs to implement a 30-bed chronic care unit in an existing hospital in Canada. The unit will take some patients immediately as another hospital closes; its other patients will originate at the hospital where the unit will be located. She needs to establish a budget and staffing needs, and estimate the new unit's effect on existing hospital resources. The director also needs to develop performance indicators for the new unit. The purpose here is to assess the types of information necessary to complete these tasks. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
