Abstract: A 14 page overview of the history of preservation as it has occurred in North America. The author contends that t he evolution of the North American continent includes two distinct yet parallel stories. These are the changes that have occurred in the development of the previously wild areas of that continent and the changes that have occurred in regard to how we view those areas.
