Religious Profiling Or Reasonable Outreach?

Abstract: 3 pages in length. The interpretive nature of how the LAPD attempted to gain information about the Muslim community for the antiterrorist agenda is what resides at the core of this civil rights issue and the primary reason why the operation was halted. The single most damning aspect of the strategy was an arbitrary understanding of what the word "moderate" meant within the context of flushing out vulnerable individuals who may have the potential for becoming mixed up with Iraqi fundamentalists? To what extent did personal opinion play a role in determining someone's moderate stance if he merely stated how wrong he thought the war was? Would that be considered a veiled threat to the safety of the United States? The level of subjectivity inherent to this type of broad-brushed operation cast the LAPD in a very awkward and inappropriate situation whereby their actions can indeed be construed as religious profiling.
