Mexican Culture-- Dia de los Muertos

Abstract: A 5 page research paper on this traditional Mexican ceremony, Dia de los Muertos, or the 'Day of the Dead,' which has its roots in two cultures -- the ancient Aztec customs of Latin America, and the Spanish-Christian observance of All Saints Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls Day on Nov. 2. According to Aztec legend on the Day of the Dead, the dead are released from Mictlan -- the land of the dead -- to visit the living world and to mingle with friends and family. The writer explores the origins of this tradition and relates the various practices that are involved. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
