Abstract: A 10 page overview of the Sacred Pipe, how it came to be, how in many cases it has been taken from the people. Gives an example of a recent repatriation of the Sacred Pipe to the Northern Cheyenne. Includes details regarding the ritualistic use of the pipe and of the care that goes into making it as well as the logistics of the repatriation movement and the obstacles Native Americans typically face in regaining one of their most cherished possessions. Includes an overview of the importance of the Sacred Pipe to other Native American cultures as well, especially the Lakota Sioux. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
