Investor Options in Times of Market Downturn

Abstract: A 10 page paper discussing the time that the 'correction' finally arrives. The bull market is a heady thing. Take a few (or many) dollars, effectively transfer the funds for a company to use for a while and make money hand over fist. The Dow made the 'impossible' figure of 3,000 just after the Gulf War. Analysts said it could never happen, that the market simply was not meant to rise to that level. Surely a correction was in order. Only nine years later, the Dow has closed at over 11,000 and few use the word 'impossible' anymore. Increasing numbers of analysts are uneasy over the future, however. This paper discusses market downturn from the perspective of the individual investor and explores options that can preserve growth and minimize the risk of loss of principal.
