Mentoring Big Brothers And Big Sisters Of America

Abstract: 3 pages in length. Growing up without a two-parent household is a struggle for kids who identify equally with and learn from male and female role models. Boys who do not have a father figure and girls who lack a mother figure are shortchanged on picking up gender cues that their other parent is not equipped to exhibit; therefore, critical components of social learning must be acquired from other influential sources, not the least of which includes the mentorship of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, an organization whose sole function is to provide social and emotional guidance as a means by which to help children and youth develop a strong sense of self. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
