Causey, Abbey/Comparison 2 Essays

Abstract: A 7 page essay that contrasts and compares the rhetorical style used by Ann Causey in her essay "Is Hunting Ethical?" and Edward Abbey in "The Cowboy and His Cow." Analysis of Causey's position shows that she primarily presents arguments based on logos, that is, an "appeal based on logic or reason," while Abbey's are largely characterized by pathos, that is, an "appeal based on emotion" (Crewell, Draper and Mitchell). However, as this analysis will demonstrate, both authors do not limit their essays to one approach and arguments using on logos and pathos are evident in both essays. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
