To Clone or Not to Clone ? A Look at Biotechnology

Abstract: This 5 page report briefly examines some of the controversies raised on the subject of cloning. The body of evidence reported and the practical application of scientific products supports the value of biotechnology, including cloning. Among the many reasons to support arguments in favor of cloning is the idea that DNA probe systems will revolutionize analysis of raw materials, ingredients, and finished products for the presence of pathogenic and spoilage organisms, bacterial and fungal toxins, chemical contaminants (i.e., herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals), and biological contaminants.
